VT Technology Presents vtCommander: a local GUI for Hyper-V management and monitoring

VT Technology is happy to announce vtCommander version 2.5

Summary of New Features and Enhancements
  • New monitoring components, see notes about new monitoring functionality below for more details.
  • Virtual Network management enhancements that allow changing connection binding order as well as IP protocol configuration properties via GUI. Also, MAC addresses are now displayed for each connected virtual switch port.
  • Guest Connection View now provides functionality to mount removable media and the integration components.
  • Guest Connection View enhancements provide support for guest console RDP sessions utilizing 32bpp depth and 32bpp cursors.
  • Preliminary support of both Windows 8 guests and hosts. Note: there is no GUI supporting new Hyper-V 3.0 functionality in this release.
  • Enhancements and fixes for command shell console view.
New Monitoring Components

Previous versions of vtCommander relied on the monitoring services that were developed by VT Technology for a 3d party. We redesigned and re-implemented the monitoring components in this version of vtCommander using unmanaged code and native Windows API. This decision was based on feedback from the field, as well as the new trends of high-density virtualized environments being more common in production, which impose new performance requirements for the virtualization management and monitoring tools. As a result we achieved a significant reduction in performance overhead, especially in scenarios when hosts with 20 and more guests are monitored. Please note that new monitoring components support only real-time monitoring.
If you are using an older version of vtCommander that supports background monitoring and configurable alerts and still want to continue use this functionality, do not install a new build as this functionality is no longer supported. Branded/older versions of vtCommander relying on previous versions of the monitoring components are no longer supported side-by-side and need to be removed before installing a new version.

Installation

vtCommander runs only on 64-bit version of Windows. It is recommended that you download and read the latest version of the User Guide prior to installing vtCommander. Download and run vtCommander bootstrapping executable that will guide you through the installation process. You will be able to start vtCommander from a command console by typing ‘vtCommander’ on the Windows 2008 R2 core installation and the Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 after that.

Uninstallation

You can remove and/or reinstall vtCommander by running its bootstrapping utility with the ‘/remove’ command line argument.
